Maka-Maka Fun Run/Walk

In Hawaiian, “maka maka” means “friend”. At Maui Jim, it symbolizes a 3-mile fun run and 1.5-mile walk to benefit the Peoria Friendship House. The 20th Annual Maui Jim Maka Maka Fun Run and Walk will take place on Thursday, August 17, 2023 at 6:00 pm at Maui Jim’s tropical atmosphere on North Allen Road in Peoria, Illinois. All proceeds from this event will benefit the Peoria Friendship House, which has been providing services in the near North side of Peoria for over 60 years. The mission of Peoria Friendship House is to do the work of Jesus Christ, providing relief, respect, and renewal to Peoria’s most vulnerable individuals and families. Through the simple gesture of a free meal, a clean shirt, or a safe place to learn, Friendship House offers the hope of a new start to the least, the last, and the lost. The Peoria Friendship House is also a home away from home for many people that are less fortunate.

A NOTE FROM THE CEO OF THE PEORIA FRIENDSHIP HOUSE OF CHRISTIAN SERVICES:

Thank you to Maui Jim and our entire community for supporting Peoria Friendship House. Our food pantry services have increased to better provide additional assistance to families in the area. We have identified that shelf-stable foods are extremely affordable but lack nutritional value. With our current budget, we are limited to this type of food and are excited to expand our offerings. We would like to include fresh produce, and protein (meat) in addition to our regular services. The funds raised from the 2023 Maka Maka Run would allow us to offer healthier food choices for our youth and families participating in our programs.

PFH provides a holistic approach towards a path to overcome poverty through wrap-around services and short and long-term mentoring. Individuals and families striving to improve their circumstances, work together with Parent Managers and create achievement plans towards overcoming specific issues and improving lives. We provide to families: Income support through resources such as clothing, food, housing/shelter, utilities, employment mentoring, and financial coaching.

Again, we would like to thank you for considering a donation to this year’s Maka Maka Run and to the Peoria Friendship House services. We truly appreciate all of your support of our community.

Sincerely,
